Kush is a variety of Cannabis indica which is known for its strength and therapeutic properties. Kush strains were among those cultivated by the British firm GW Pharmaceuticals for its legally licensed commercial trial of medicinal cannabis. The strain originates from northern Pakistan and northwestern India, with the name coming from the Hindu Kush mountain range.
There are over 15 major varieties of Kush to date, and more being developed every year. This index includes both Hindu Kush and Afghani Kush varieties and their related strains, including popular varieties Bubba Kush, LA Confidential, and Afgooey.
Kush varieties tend to be medium to fast (or even auto) flowering 5-8 weeks, with a medium yield. The plants are short and robust with dark broad leaves. Kush tends to do best in dry regions and due to the high density of their flowers, is susceptible to mold and mildew. These plants enjoy warm days and cool nights, with temperature drops bringing on color variation in the stem and flower. Dark crimson reds, and purples are not uncommon.
Kush varieties tend to be very good sellers in dispensaries due to their high levels of THC. Kush typically demands higher than average retail price due to its popularity and the fact that it tends to have a lower yield than many other commercial strains.
